Disney Dream Sails Out To Sea!

Late last week, Disney Cruise Line®’s newest ship, the Disney Dream™, said farewell to the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and made a 26-mile journey down the winding Ems River on her way to the North Sea. It’s a process known as “conveyance” and it’s unique to the ships built by Meyer Werft since the shipyard is so far inland. The delicate maneuver involved guiding the 1,115-foot vessel by tugboats as she traveled backward down the river to Eemshaven, a seaport in The Netherlands.

Fireworks lit up the sky as she passed through the first sea lock to leave the Papenburg shipyard, and again as she passed the town of Leer several hours later. Thousands of residents turned out all along the river’s shores to cheer her on during the overnight journey.

The crew is currently conducting sea trials to test the ship’s engines and other control systems out on the North Sea. Meanwhile, work on her interior areas continues at a steady pace in order to get ready for the maiden cruise from Port Canaveral, Fla., on Jan. 26.

New Shows On Board the Disney Dream!

Disney Cruise Line® has just unveiled the lineup of entertainment for our newest cruise ship, the Disney Dream™.

Experience some of the most elaborate original musicals presented at sea, over-the-top deck parties and, bursting above it all, the largest fireworks spectacular aboard a cruise ship.

Headlining the musical repertoire is “Disney’s Believe,” an original stage spectacular that combines a heartfelt story with a captivating musical score. Other productions include fan favorite “The Golden Mickeys: A Timeless Tribute,” featuring new musical numbers, and “Villains Tonight!” a fun-filled musical comedy starring Disney’s most famous evil-doers.

In addition to our nightly stage shows, we are re-imagining our popular “Pirates IN the Caribbean” evening with the creation of three distinct deck events:

The evening starts with “Mickey’s Pirates in the Caribbean,” an interactive show featuring Disney characters.
Later, Captain Jack Sparrow unleashes “Club Pirate,” a high-tech, open-air dance party.
Of course, we’re still the only cruise line with fireworks at sea. We’ll take this distinctive Disney offering a step further with “Buccaneer Blast!” A new pyrotechnic spectacular featuring more fireworks than ever before synchronized to a dramatic musical score.

The Disney Dream™ is available to book for 2011 and select dates in 2012.

More Additions Open at Disney’s Castaway Cay

August 24th, 2010 by Off to Neverland Travel in Disney Cruise Line News, Disney News

Spring-a-Leak, a 2,400-square-foot water playground, opened Saturday on Disney Cruise Line’s private island, Castaway Cay.Spring-a-Leak Water Playground

Spring-a-Leak is themed as a storm-ravaged structure. Guests enter and are greeted by dripping pipes and broken plumbing. A splash pad is the focal point, and water fountains and jets spray guests. Shade is provided by leftover pieces of the corrugated steel roof, aged and distressed fabric and the occasional palm tree growing up through the floor foundation.

Spring-a Leak is open to all ages, but is the perfect hangout for toddlers and preschoolers.

This is the latest in a series of improvements to the private island. In May, Pelican Plunge, a floating deck with two corkscrew slides, was added to the family beach. Private cabanas and a second barbecue restaurant, Cookies Too, are in the works but have not opened yet. Scuttle’s Cove, the area for children’s activities, is expected to gain a 200-square-foot wet deck with geysers.

AULANI: Disney's Newest Resort in Hawaii

Disney has begun construction on its newest vacation destination , The Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, in Ko Olina, Hawaii. This ocean front resort spread over 21 acres features; hotel rooms, Disney Vacation Club Villas, meeting rooms, wedding facilities, white sandy beaches, lush tropical landscaping, a salt water lagoon perfect for swimming and snorkeling, a large swimming pool with a huge volcano water slide and much more.

Ko Olina is on the Wai' anae Coast of O'ahu. It is a secluded paradise, yet close enough to Waikiki to enjoy all that city has to offer. The resort itself takes its inspiration from the Hawaiian culture through and through. Disney Imagineers used as much of the natural landscape as possible in their design for this new resort. In fact there is a large volcanic rock that passes from outside to inside the glass lobby wall. Large volcanic stone columns line the hallways, works of art are perched in the crowns of the lava rock rising up out of the lobby floor.

Disney Imagineers partnered with members of the local community to determine how the story of the Resort and Spa would unfold for the guests. By doing this they created an experience of 'total engagement with the land-revealed through storytelling'. Storytelling elements are found throughout the resort, both inside and out.

The Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa is scheduled to open in Fall of 2011. Reservations for vacation experiences should be available sometime late Summer or early Fall.

If you want some Hawaiian flavor now, you can book a stay at Disney's Polynesian Resort at the Walt Disney World® resort in Orlando Florida. If you book soon you can get a FREE Dining plan through dates into December. Click Here for a free No Obligation Quote!

Work has begun on the new Fantasyland Expansion Project

The Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, FL has begun work on a new project that is going to more than double the size of Fantasyland. This new expansion is planned to roll out in two phases the first being in 2012 and the second in 2013.

The new Fantasyland will involve developing hundreds of additional acres along with space currently used by Mickey's Toontown Fair. This new expansion will offer all of Disney's guests a rich and immersive experience as they experience the worlds of some of Disney's most classic fairytale films. Films such as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and others will now have a experiential presence in the Magic Kingdom®

Disney Imagineers have announced some of the proposed attractions and features of the new expansion along with artist rendtions of some of the key areas.

Beauty and the Beast:

Beast's castle, although not as large as Cinderella's will join the castles of the Magic Kingdom®. Guests will be able to visit Belle's father's cottage, experience a magic miror that will transport guests to Beast's castle and have an opportunity to perform the story of Beauty and the Beast for Belle.

There will also be a new elegant 552 seat, Be Our Guest restaurant inside Beast's castle which will quickly become a must in the table service dining offerings for hungry guests.

Cinderella:

Cinderella is also going to be a part of a new attraction in the Fantasyland expansion project. Guests will experience the Fairy Godmother magically transform Cinderella's servant clothes into a beautiful ball gown and then help her practice for the royal ball or train to become one of her royal knights.

Sleeping Beauty:

At Sleeping Beauty's cottage, guests will join in the celebration as all the fairies throw Aurora a 'Sweet-16' birthday party. Children can make birthday cards and be able to hide and greet her with a big 'SURPRISE!' as she enters the cottage.

Dumbo:

The wait is over. No more waiting for hours for a 90 second ride on Disney's most famous elephant. The new Fantasyland expansion project is bringing a second Dumbo ride along with a huge circus tent filled with interactive games while guests wait in line for their ride.

Little Mermaid:

Disney has not given much details, but has announced a new E-Ticket ride, featuring all the friends and music from The Little Mermaid. WIth a rumored budget of over $100 million budget should make this a cornerstone attraction for the new expansion. Most likely will be an omnimover ride system that guest will board "clammobiles" similar to the ones found at The Seas with Nemo and Friends ride at Epcot.

As more information becomes available we will keep you up to date. So if 2010 is the year of Wizarding World of Harry Potter® then 2012 will by the year of Fantasyland.

Make plans now to visit the Walt Disney World® Resort and check out all the Fantasyland expansion work for yourself while enjoying all the magic the World has to offer.

Enchanted Garden on Disney Dream Revealed

July 7th, 2010 by Off to Neverland Travel

Disney Cruise Line® has revealed another of the three main restaurants aboard the newDisney Dream™.

Boasting painted frescoes where rolling hills mingle with lush greenery and a magnificent blue sky overhead, Enchanted Garden invites Guests to dine in a serene splendor that recalls an elegant conservatory amid the foothills in France. Guests enter a restaurant inspired by the gardens of Versailles, which they view from inside a conservatory setting. During dinner, the restaurant’s blue-sky ceiling changes into the golden red of a setting sun and then the inky nighttime sky of twinkling stars. Flower light fixtures bloom and become bathed in color, decorative wall sconces fall away to become folding fans, wall paintings project a dusky illumination and the centerpiece 7-foot fountain, home to a fanciful stone cherub Mickey Mouse, is flooded with shimmering light.

The concept of a transforming dining room is similar to the popular Animator’s Palate, which is located on all three Disney ships. Here, black and white sketches magically transform into beautiful works of colorful art.Enchanted Garden- Night

Menus are described as market-inspired Continental, meaning food is planned to maximize what is in season. Dinner is served in Enchanted Garden as part of Disney Cruise Line’s rotational dining system, in which passengers and their servers move together each evening to a different restaurant. Breakfast and lunch will be served there on select days with open seating. The Daily Navigator will have a schedule of restaurant dining times.
